December 2024 build

December 2024 build December 2024 build

This is the first time I built a computer for a customer, it was a great experience overall, but I was a bit time constrained as I had to get to work in 4 hours. That being said, the cable management is definitely not the best, but I did my best to make sure that everything was put together correctly and operating fine. This HYTE case made hiding the fan cables very very simple, I was able to daisy chain all the fans together with the iCUE controller in the back of the case. I don't have a photo of the back, but the cables are cable tied to their correct spot, this is the main thing I focused on getting good so that this customer would have an easier time adding new drives in the future.

Specs:

This computer was built for a family friend that initially had another problem with his computer that I fixed (just a couple of bent pins on the USB 3.0 MOBO header and missing PSU connections). He was glad I could fix that for him, and wanted me to build him a new computer as he's getting ready for the NVIDIA 50 series to drop so he can get himself an RTX 5090.

Major Concerns:

Intel 13th and 14th gen issues

Intel's 13th and 14th gen chips have had issues with voltage and Oxidation issues. These issues were a major concern for me when I was putting together his build. Intel has has stated that they pulled the Oxidation effected chips as of now according to this reddit post from Intel, I assume this CPU should not have the Oxidation issue as he got is in November 2024.

To address the voltage issue, I updated his BIOS to the most recent version where the motherboard manufacturer stated they had fixed the microcode to address this voltage regulation issue.

Conclusion:

This build was a very good experience for me, it was the first time I had interacted with someone for computer help, and it's helped me understand how I can help people better. He initially contacted me when I had a FB ad up for computer builds and fixes, his initial issue was a very easy fix that I got done in about 20 minutes, and he was very happy I could get it working so quick and in the next day!

The main thing I picked up from this is that I need to work people into my schedule and help them as soon as I can. He needed to get his computer fixed quick because he wanted to play COD Black Ops 6 over the weekend, and other places were to charge him double what I was charging for just a diagnosis and take longer to actually do the job. Overall, I'm really glad I could help him out, and build him a new computer!
